'The
Maze Whirlpool'. 1990 - Present. Mixed Media Installation.
The Maze Whirlpool
is the name of the most recent of the artists three large
composite banner installations, the others being 'Parade'
(1985) and 'Inside the Kerbstones'
(1992). It is a large double-sided painting worked on cloth
and painted collaboratively by the artist and various members
of the public in Ireland and the United States of America.
The photos below show workshops in progress in Los Angeles
and Belfast. The artist considers this piece unresolved
and does not know if it will ever see completion and proper
exhibition. It might be that the process of making it was
actually the work of art. A full report on the Northern
Ireland workshop sessions funded jointly by the Community
Relations Council and Wheelworks
is available entitled 'Mapping
the Labyrinth'.
